| 1999 Compton and Chandlers Ford Fantasy League - the official form guide | |||
| Tips - | Watch out for the impact of the colts this season. Our under 15's won the indoor league in the winter. | ||
| Don't take too many gambles on players who make limited appearances | |||
| Bowlers can make more of an impact this season - both good and bad, so pick them carefully | |||
| Player | 98 actual | 99 rating | |
| Andy Gorty | 100 | 100 | Dashing bat and excellent gully. Still claims he's really an off break bowler. The top rated player on 98 form. |
| Simon Lawrence | 70 | 70 | Currently the leading player from the Lawrence stable. Made the step up to 1st team cricket in 98 and almost achieved the distinction of a century at each level of senior cricket. |
| Bill Brown | 75 | 75 | I'm told there are still people around who can remember Bill running a three. Won the club batting award last year, Bill never sells his wicket cheaply. |
| Fred Bendall | 55 | 30 | Outgoing chairman so I don't need to be so polite. One of last years leading fantasy players, Fred will again pile up points if his body will let him. Will miss start of season recovering from ops on his leg. |
| Paul Lawrence | 45 | 45 | A bloke this big ought to hit the ball much harder. Re-discovered some of his confidence lat season and should be pushing for a 1st XI place in 99 |
| Julien Croker | 50 | 50 | Re-captured some of his old form in 98 proving that footwork isn't everything. Excellent fielder and another who may force his way back into the 1st eleven. |
| Rob Selwyn* | 45 | 45 | Takes on captaincy of 1sts this year. Looked in good touch last year but must turn cameos in to big innings to make an impact in the fantasy ratings. Official pie thrower of the season in 98. |
| Kevin Fry | 45 | 50 | Steady 1st season with C&CF but never quite hit the heights he is capable of. Expect more in 99 |
| Steve Lawrence* | 40 | 40 | Excellent 1st year captaining the 2nds. At his best in a baton charge he contributed some very useful middle order runs. Head of the Lawrence academy.. |
| Patrick Pritchard | 80 | 55 | A veritable run machine with a ill-deserved? reputation for running out tardy partners. Paddy has promised not to hog the strike if we install a gaming m/c at the non-strikers end. Uni commitments will limit appearances.. |
| James Lowman | 35 | 35 | Has cured most scorers of their insomnia, however the value of his innings last year was not always reflected by the quantity of runs he scored. Still has scope for improvement. |
| Phil Gandy | 25 | 25 | Impressive rookie season for someone who had played so little cricket previously. Could develop into a very hander tonka. Indecisive about his hair colouring. |
| Jon Warrick | 20 | 25 | Stylish left hander. Technically the best bat in the club. Will not be available for 1st half of the season. |
| Aron Read | 15 | 25 | Last season was annualis horriblis for Aron. Surely he will do better in 99, surely. Will stand in as keeper in Paddy's absence |
| Nigel Riches | 15 | 10 | One of the few players who looks up to me Nigel played regularly for the 3rds last year but very often didn't get to the crease. Handy keeper, excellent out fielder, 100% effort and commitment guaranteed |
| Alex Collinson | 15 | 20 | Available after Uni. Is capable of scoring more runs than last season. May not always do the business on the pitch but is very reliable in the bar. |
| Ben Farndon | 10 | 10 | An undemonstrative player who could be good value - unlikely to make big scores but can chip in with some useful runs on his day. |
| Mike Richardson | 10 | 10 | Veteran campaigner who is likely to play only occasionally. Still a very difficult player to get out and would score plenty of runs in the 3rds. I have to be polite cos he's our President. |
| Andrew Whiteside | n/a | 10 | Agile young wicket keeper/batsman who could make a big contribution in 99. |
| Graham Cain | 25 | 25 | Hit form late on in the 98 season and showed himself capable of making big scores. Could be one to watch in 99. |
| Graeme Blacklock | 10 | 10 | Another who could be good value, regularly available and will often chip in useful runs from down the order. |
| Tom Lawrence | n/a | 20 | Another impressive colt from the Lawrence stable. Tom has his eyes firmly set on the Lawrence cricket crown. I've haven't seen him play but all the reviews suggest he will quickly make his mark at senior level. |
| Hamsa Drabu | n/a | 20 | A high class bat who didn't play for us at all last season. An Ex C&CF colt, he would be a first team regular if available. |
| John Rutter | n/a | 20 | Another outstanding ex C&CF colt who didn't play for the club last year. Hopefully will be available later in the season. |
| Lee McCloughlin | 70 | 65 | Something clearly had a good influence on him last year (Kathy). Leading wicket taker in the 2nds and still improving. |
| Ian Garrard | 60 | 60 | Fantasy player of the season in 98. Very competitive cricketer, should do well again in 99 |
| Scott Weston | 55 | 50 | A very big bloke so I'll have to be polite. The hostility of his bowling doesn't quite match his run up but his batting is definitely improved. Should pile up the points. |
| Adam Brown | 50 | 55 | Few people can score more slowly than Bean, luckily he's in the side for his bowling. Showed some impressive bursts of pace last year but prone to spray it around on occasions. |
| Russ Dearlove | 40 | 40 | Mixed rookie season. Never quite got amongst the wickets but didn't concede lots of runs. Needs to tidy his bowling up (and his bedroom) . |
| David Sealy | 40 | 20 | Up and down season interrupted by injury. Tall bowler who is a very difficult prospect on a bouncy pitch. Uni commitments will limit appearances in 99. |
| Tony Giles | 40 | 50 | Regained much of his pace as last season went on and should be back to his best for 99.Rumour has it that he used to be a class bat, what happened? |
| Gordon de la Mere | 25 | 30 | Globe trotting lifestyle may affect his availability but still a key bowler when he's around. Actually seems to bat better when jet lagged. |
| Ed Champion | 20 | 20 | Made a good start to the 98 season but limited appearances thereafter. Looking to score his first run for 2 years.League matches are just Ed's way of warming up for the tour. |
| Ben Stilwell | 15 | 15 | A lively bowler who should get amongst the wickets this year. |
| Ben Reeves | 10 | 15 | Another young player who is improving all the time and should come on a lot this season. |
| Carl Roberts | 40 | 40 | Always likely to pick up wickets with his deceiving pace. Struggled a bit with the bat last year but is capable of scoring runs at this level. |
| Steve Bendall | 100 | 80 | Star performer for the 2nds last year with wickets and runs in abundance. Should certainly be in the1st XI starting line up for 99. Also a big asset in the field.. |
| Martin Dearlove | 65 | 65 | Won the league bowling trophy last year despite regularly being the oldest player in the 1sts. May need to double the dose of Grecian 2000 to look the part. |
| Larry Cooley | 55 | 55 | Seasoned campaigner who knows every pub within a 3 mile radius of every cricket ground in Hampshire. Made an immediate impact in the 2nds last season, likely to be very effective again in 99. |
| Jon Masters | 45 | 50 | Improving off spinner and middle order batsman. Should go better in 99 with the bat. One day he might get to bowl from my end (in his dreams). |
| Nigel Chalke | 35 | 40 | Very accurate medium fast bowler and still a clean striker of the ball. Like many thoroughbreds, has trouble with his pins. |
| Martin Reeves | 35 | 35 | Had a difficult 98 with only limited bowling opportunities. Remains an effective upper order batsman and wicket taking bowler in the right conditions. |
| David Barnes | 25 | 30 | Loads of talent. Brilliant fielder, very useful swing bowler and an attacking batsman. Getting caught at mid-off is his Achilles' heel. (Uni commitments until later in season). |
| Matt Pickett* | 55 | 55 | Officially runs 40metres in under 10 seconds. Matt made great strides (slow ones maybe) forward with his batting last year to become a very effective opener. Should bowl himself more. |
| Tom Putt | n/a | 10 | Promising young bowler from the King Edward's stable. Appearances may be limited. |
| Mark Bannell | n/a | 10 | Under 15 colt who isn't afraid to put bat to ball in uncompromising, if not textbook, style. |
| Craig Lenton | n/a | 10 | Another of our under 15's who is expected to make the transition to senior cricket this year. Steady accumulator of runs and useful bowler. |
